I wish I could customize this tweet. If you’re reading this on my site, and wondering what I’m talking about, that first line could seem a bit confusing. Unfortunately, it’s the only way the updated tumblr app—which otherwise brings some nice new features—allows users to tailor their tweets; when you use the “Send To Twitter” function to announce a new blog post, it simply uses the opening line of that post as the tweet text. If you’re used to using the feature on your desktop—which allows full customization of the tweet—you may want to confine your posting to that interface.
The other features are welcome updates, particularly the ability to search tags from within the app—a previously missing feature that is basically what tumblr is all about. There are also some quick, gesture-based ways to launch the Text Post or Photo interfaces, and the app overall feels a bit quicker and a bit more stylish. More to come after I’ve used it for a bit, but so far it seems like a worthwhile update.
